Salt build-up is a pain in the 'you-know-what' for all us boat owners. As the editor of boatplace.com.au I can actually vouch for the Salt Slayer. I purchased one of these handy, lightweight little units at the 2009 Sanctaury Cove International Boat Show and have been using it regularly. Water access at my marina berth is difficult, so the Salt Slayer lives aboard my Maxum - tucked away in the head when not in use. It plugs straight into the 12 volt socket at the helm and I can manouvre it anywhere around the boat, easy!![]()
Salt Slayer - a versatile 12V washer to clean the salt off your boat
With Salt Slayer, you can wash your boat in less than two buckets of water - and it complies with water restrictions! Sick of having to sit in commercial car wash queues? Perhaps your yacht is on a mooring with no access to fresh water? Maybe you take long fishing trips and need a way to wash down away from home. Introducing Salt Slayer, a new 12V pressure washer designed to go tough on salt and easy on water. The compact unit comprises a 13 litre tank so you can carry the water anywhere. One fill of the tank provides 10 minutes of pressurised water. This means an average boat can be washed in just two buckets of water. What's more, because Salt Slayer is not connected to mains water it complies with water restrictions if you use tank or recycled water anywhere in Australia.
Salt Slayer, from the makers of the Car Cube 12V pressure washer, has been modified for the marine market. An earmuff adaptor has been added for outboard flushing, pressure has been improved from 130psi to up to 150psi, a filter basket has been added to capture debris from impure water and the pump diaphragm material has been enhanced to provide some chemical resistance. Also included is an adapter to attach the washer directly to your boat battery. An oceanesque name and a classic nautical colour make Salt Slayer a neat addition to any fisherman's kit.
Salt Slayer is completely different from your average pressure washer. Its unique high pressure, low flow pump makes it at least 400 per cent more efficient than other washers. One 13L fill of Salt Slayer will provide 10 minutes of continuous cleaning at up to 150psi. Substitutes require 30-180L or more to clean a boat. Unlike alternatives Salt Slayer is portable. It does not require 240V to operate, rather, it is powered by a 12V power cord that plugs into a boat or car's accessory port or 12V battery pack. This means boat owners can have portable pressurised water on the boat, at the ramp or at the marina. An added feature is the ability to add Salt Slayer Solution to the washer. Not only does this neutralize the harmful effects of salt, but also places a protective coating on the surface. Safe to use on fiberglass, trailers and clears, the product is the perfect compliment to the portable washer for those who love to give their boat the full pamper. The solution is available in 1 and 4 litre packs and sold separately.
A typical hose uses between 10 - 20 Litres a minute - even with a trigger nozzle attached. Salt Slayer presents the most efficient alternative allowing a small boat to be washed with less than 20 litres. "Salt Slayer's the ideal portable cleaning companion for any marine application," said business owner, Cameron Bean. "Ten minutes is ample time to clean an average boat; and, because Salt Slayer is portable, users don't need access to a tap. No more guilt about rinsing your outboard with drinking water. It's the most water efficient way to protect your gear from the corrosive effects of salt," says Bean. "People love being able to wash down the trailer and boat and rods at the ramp, before it takes hold," Bean added.
Salt Slayer is a portable 12V pressure washer. Its 6m hose and 5m power cord means users can get to the top and the bottom of most cleaning jobs. Users can fill at home and wash down by the beach or out bush. It is ideal for boat and trailer rinse down, moored yachts, fishing, kayaks, jet skis, camping, 4WDs, caravans, small trucks, car washing, outdoor adventure, mountain and motor bike riding. And because the unit is not connected to mains water and can use tank or recycled water it is legal for use with water restrictions. Salt Slayer has the nationally recognised Smart Approved Water Mark for equipment that demonstrates low water usage. Salt Slayer is available for a RRP of $169.
