Looking after your Seats

One thing I always try to look after is the seating on my Maxum. For the most part, it's still in pretty good condition after all these years and I intend to keep it that way. When the boat is not in use, the seats are always kept protected with UV-resistant covers to shield them from the daylight sun and night's moisture.

Apart from washing the seats with undiluted warm water and a non-abrasive cloth, I also routinely apply Scotch Guard on the stitching to help its lifespan. Only one seat, the stern-mounted one pictured, has endured more deterioration of condition with its original owner. I have found a vinyl spray pack called White Knight (in the right color of off-white matching my seats) which claims to soften and restore vinyl. I have applied this a number of times now and although it's much better than when I first bought the boat, I am not totally convinced of its merits. The most annoying thing is the two-tone format of off-white seating with grey piping - unavoidably you end up spraying the piping as well.

Is anyone using other products? Let me know!
